Have you ever wondered what another homemaker’s day looks like? I’m always intrigued by learning about other’s daily routines, rhythms and schedules.
A daily routine looks different for every person. There are lots of factors that go into a person’s routine.
I’m not much of a schedule person, but I do have rhythms and habits that are consistent in my days.
Whether you have 0, 1, or 8 children at home will obviously impact your homemaking routine.
Some woman are full-time homemakers while others also work outside of the home.
Here’s a glimpse into my homemaking routine! I currently have one baby and I work from home, so I’m not juggling lots of kids, homeschool, etc.

MORNING
Our day usually starts between 8-8:30. I’m not much of a morning person and am trying my best to encourage my baby to sleep in as well! We rarely set an alarm, or have anywhere to be before 10am. That’s the way we like it!
Typically the first thing I do in the morning is get myself and the baby dressed. During this process we might play on the floor, I’ll check my phone and drink a glass of water or tea.
Then I eat breakfast while I nurse the baby.
Once we’re ready I usually do a handful of small household tasks such as make the bed, switch or fold a load of laundry, stuff cloth diapers, put away the dishes, collect eggs from the chickens etc.
Before I know it it’s time for the baby’s first nap. This always sneaks up on me!
Depending on the day, while he’s in bed I might take some more time to do my hair/makeup, catch up on social media, read my devotions or do a little bit of work. This is his longest nap of the day and I try to do things that are much harder to do while he’s awake!

AFTERNOON
When the baby wakes up from his first nap I usually eat lunch while nursing him.
He’s usually happy to play for a bit so this is when I like to get a few tasks done. I’m not one for a strict cleaning routine, but I do share my daily/weekly cleaning rhythms for a happy home in this post.
Depending on how long my cleaning chores take, I usually spend some time in the kitchen in the afternoons. Some days I’m doing meal prep, baking bread, or homemade yogurt. Other days I’m simply just prepping dinner for the night.
I’ve learned that it works much better for my family if I prep dinner earlier in the afternoon before everyone is tired + hungry.
On warm/sunny days I like to get outside. I love going for a walk for the baby’s afternoon nap! I strap him in to the stroller, turn on a podcast and go for a nice long walk while he sleeps.

EVENING
If I haven’t already prepped dinner, I’ll do so during/after the baby’s afternoon nap. Then I might take some time to tidy up the kitchen/living room, or do a bigger task like decluttering/organizing a closet, weed the garden, etc. I’m usually listening to a podcast while I do this!
We’ll eat dinner as a family, and then the baby usually has one more quick nap. Often we do a contact nap.
Once he’s awake we’ll do some floor play time, I’ll read him books, etc. We try to hang out as a family a bit before he goes to bed for the night.
Once he’s in bed I do a final tidy up of the house, make myself a cup of tea and then usually work for a few hours or watch a movie with my husband.
I go to bed for the night between 11pm-12am. I love staying up late but also know that I’ll be up a few times throughout the night.

ABOUT OUR SCHEDULE
This is a typical day at home. Several days a week we have commitments out of the house – Bible study, mom group, etc. Other days we might go to the grocery store, etc. But we do spend most of our time at home – that’s our favourite place!
I’ve learned that I don’t love to be busy. I like my days to be simple + slow. I prioritize lots and lots of time cooking homemade food from scratch in my kitchen!
My preference is to have an out-of-the-house commitment every other day! Then the days between I can make sure the baby has good naps, and I’m able to get chores done.
I’d love to hear about your schedule! Are you more of a strict schedule homemaker, or go with the flow? Do you have busy days, or relaxed days at home?
